All turns to dust

  

Each year, Las Fallas in Valência, Spain, have a curi- 

ous ritual whose origins lie in the ancient com- 

munity of carpenters. During the entire year, craftsmen and art- 

ists construct giant sculptures in wood. On the 

week of the feast, they take these sculptures to 

the main square. People pass, comment, marvel 

and are moved by such creativity. Then, on St. Jo- 

seph’s day all these works of art - except one - are 

burned on a giant bonfire, watched by thousands 

of onlookers. 

 - Why so much work for nothing? - asked 

an Englishwoman beside me, as flames licked the 

sky. 

 - You too will come to an end one day - re- 

plied a Spanish woman. - Can you imagine if, at 

that moment, an angel asked God: “why so much 

work for nothing?”

Believe. Believe. Believe.

 

This month, my favorite author, Paulo Coelho, announced on Twitter that he has made available on his blog a few of his beloved books to the public- for free. (!) So, in my continued obsession to spread his marvelous insight and stories, I have once again have posted an excerpt here from, "The Warrior of Light". This one speaks about the importance of faith. Whether it is our faith in a particular god, or many gods, faith in the Universe itself, faith in humanity as a whole, or maybe even just faith in yourself- or your bank account- you can't really live without it. 

It's the presence of our faith, regardless of what we believe in, that transforms us all- just as long as we believe. 

Moving Forward.

"The Warrior of the Light does not always have faith. There are times when he does not believe in anything at all. 

And he asks his heart: “Will all the effort be worthwhile?”  

But the heart remains silent. And the warrior must decide for himself. 

So he seeks an example. 

And he remembers that Jesus endured something similar - in order to live the human condition in all its fullness. 

“Take this cup away from me,” said Jesus. 

He too lost heart and his courage, but he did not stop.

The Warrior of the Light remains faithless. 

But he moves forward nevertheless, 

and his faith will return..."

 

So, let's keep going. 

It's not always easy...

But let's keep believing, at least until tomorrow. 

Because we will never know what tomorrow has in store for us unless we see it for ourselves...

My resolutions start today

 What do you think would happen if you made it a point to wake up everyday and say to yourself at least one positive statement? Then, without any doubt in your mind, you chose to believe it?

Couldn't hurt, could it? 

• I create abundance in all that I say and do.
  
• I am filled with success.
  
• I feel completely at ease and comfortable with all types of people.
  
• I am deserving of all the good things in my life.
  
• I am glowing with health and wholeness.

I'm going to do it. Starting today. 12 - 21 - 2009. I'm not waiting for 2010. I'm going to see what happens.

City of Angels

Fifteen minutes ago, I sat in my car Sunset and Highland. Traffic, naturally, was gridlocked. Lost in my own world of one million and one thoughts, I stared down at my hands, and asked the Universe for a sign.

I looked up, and saw this man standing at my window. 

 

He refused to accept the coins I handed him.

Tick. Tock.

You might already know...

I loved your laugh the moment I first heard it.

It made me laugh too. But much harder than whatever you were laughing about at the time.

Oh, and your smile.

It’s beautiful.

Your hugs are great too. But I think mine might be better.

We like the same music.

Oh, and Enya. That’s kind of a big deal. I mean, not many guys can admit to that (maybe because not many do).

I play piano. You sing beautifully. That is a damn good combo. Ask anyone.

We both like dogs (Even if you don't believe me- I really do).

We wear the same sunglasses. Coincidence?

We both love to eat delicious food. You’re much better at putting down your fork than I am.

We both love to drink amazing wine. I’m better at putting down my glass than you are.

We both love to cook. (That’s worth repeating) We both love to cook. (And we’re both really good at it too).

We both love Nutella...

We speak the same two languages. Two good reasons to talk.

We’re both creative and artistic individuals.

We both love to explore and travel.

We both like to ride bikes on the beach and take photos, at the same time. Talent and skill.

We like the same flowers. I like bringing them to you, and you like putting them in vases.

We have the same star sign. You know- we get each other. ;-)

We both like fresh fruits and veggies. Boom- another thing we have in common.

We’re both impatient. But that'll change...not soon enough though.

You worry too much about things, and so do I. But I’ll cheer you up, and make you laugh. And your laugh will make me laugh. Bam! Problem Solved.

I’ll tell you that everything is going to be just fine. Even great. Even greater than great.

And you’ll see...It will be.

We’re good people, for the most part. And that won't change...

I think you’re ‘foni’. And you think I’m a ‘moron.’

You have an eye for beauty.

And I have an eye for you.
