Tonight I went to the live taping of the season finale of "So You Think You Can Dance".
I gotta confess a couple of things...
-First, I've never even seen or heard of the show until today.
-Second, I don't normally like shows like this.
But this was an exception. This was brilliance. The choreography was innovative and refreshing, matched only by the sheer strength, grace and talent of the performers.
Strangely, I was more fixed on watching the performances on the giant TV screen behind the dancers rather than watching them live. With sweeping camera shots, close-ups, and views from different angles, I almost prefer watching it on TV.
On the outcome of the winners- I would have bet on Danny. But I'm glad the girl won.
Surprise of the night- "Hey Paula!" Abdul was in the seat in front of me...sober.
Show highlights-
-The intensely beautiful performance of the "Humming Bird".
-Brian Gaynor's solo act.
-The quirky hotness of host, Cat Deely.
Lowlights-
-Paula Abdul, surprisingly sober pre-show.
-Paula Abdul, still sober mid-show (even after restroom break).
-Paula Abdul...
Overall, it really was an exceptional night colored with talent and potential. And I will undoubtedly, maybe tune in next season.
